About this courseCourse overview
Ontario requires every worker and every supervisor to complete a basic occupational health and safety awareness program. This online course is built around the topics O. Reg. 297/13 lists, written in plain English with workplace examples.
You learn how the internal responsibility system works, what the Occupational Health and Safety Act asks of employers, supervisors and workers, and how to use your rights to know, to participate and to refuse unsafe work. A dedicated module for supervisors covers their extra duties, including making sure workers follow the law and use the equipment and protection they need.
Practical lessons show how to recognise, assess and control hazards, and how joint health and safety committees and representatives support a safe workplace.
Your employer must still give you job-specific and site-specific instruction, and must keep proof that you completed awareness training.

FAQFrequently asked questions
Is this course for workers or supervisors?
Both. The core modules apply to everyone, and a dedicated module covers the additional duties of supervisors.
Do I need to repeat this every year?
O. Reg. 297/13 does not set a refresher period, but many employers repeat awareness training regularly. Check your employer's policy.
Will my employer accept the certificate?
You receive a Certificate of Completion your employer can file as a record. Employers decide which programs they accept, so check with them if you are unsure.
Does this replace site-specific safety training?
No. Your employer must still train you on the specific hazards, equipment and procedures of your job.
Training a team?
