This policy explains how Charter Compliance Academy collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit chartercomplianceacademy.com, create an account or take a course. We follow the principles of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for people in Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.
1Who is responsible for your information
Charter Compliance Academy is responsible for personal information under its control. Our privacy contact handles questions and requests at info@chartercomplianceacademy.com.
2Information we collect
Account details such as your name, email address and password; learning records such as courses, progress, quiz results, completion dates and certificate IDs; messages you send us through forms or email, including organisation and phone number if you provide them; and technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages visited.
3How we collect it
Directly from you when you register, enrol, take a course or contact us; automatically through cookies and server logs when you use the site; and from your employer when they enrol you in a team course.
4Why we use it
To create and manage your account, give you access to courses, track progress and issue your Certificate of Completion; to process orders and provide support; to send service emails such as order confirmations and account messages; to share completion reports with your employer when they enrolled you; and to keep the site secure and improve our courses. We only send marketing emails with your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
5Sharing your information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only as needed with: Paddle.com, our online reseller and Merchant of Record, which collects payment and billing details directly and handles them under its own privacy policy; our website hosting and email providers; your employer, for team enrolments they manage; and authorities where the law requires it.
6Storage outside Canada
Our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union. When this happens, the information is subject to the laws of those countries. We use contracts and safeguards to protect it.
7How long we keep information
We keep account and learning records while your account is active and for up to 7 years afterwards, so you and your employer can prove course completion. Messages are kept for up to 3 years. We delete or anonymise information we no longer need.
8Your rights
You can ask to access or correct your personal information, withdraw consent where we rely on it, or ask us to delete your account. People in Quebec also have the right to data portability and to be informed of automated decisions. Contact us to make a request. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.
9Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, remember your cart and protect the site. We do not use advertising cookies. You can control cookies in your browser settings, but the site may not work properly without essential cookies.
10Data security
We protect information with encrypted connections, access controls and reputable service providers. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the relevant privacy regulator as the law requires.
11Children
Our courses are designed for working-age learners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell account holders about significant changes.
