Course overview
WHMIS is Canada hazard communication standard. Workers who use or are exposed to hazardous products need WHMIS education so they can read labels, use safety data sheets and protect themselves. This online course covers the general education part of WHMIS in about an hour.
You learn who does what under WHMIS: suppliers, employers and workers. You then study the hazard classes and pictograms, the difference between supplier and workplace labels and the 16 sections of a safety data sheet, with practice finding the answers you need quickly.
The Hazardous Products Regulations were amended in December 2022 to align with a newer edition of the GHS, with the transition ending on December 14, 2025. The course explains what changed so that workers who learned WHMIS earlier can update their knowledge. The last module covers safe storage, handling, personal protective equipment and what to do in a spill or emergency.
Please note: WHMIS also requires site-specific training on the products and procedures at your own workplace, which your employer must provide. This course covers general WHMIS education only and is not legal advice.
