Course overview
Standard first aid goes further than the basics. This online course gives you the full body of knowledge behind first aid and CPR: how to assess a person, how to manage life-threatening emergencies and how to care for injuries and sudden illness until help arrives.
The early modules cover the role of a first aider, consent, scene safety and a structured assessment. The CPR and AED module covers adults, children and infants. You then work through choking, severe bleeding, shock, anaphylaxis and breathing emergencies.
The second half of the course covers injuries such as wounds, fractures, burns and head, neck and spine injuries, medical emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies, seizures and poisoning, and environmental emergencies such as heat illness, hypothermia and frostbite. The final module covers first aid kits, emergency action plans and incident records.
Please note: this is an online knowledge course. It does not include the hands-on practice with an instructor that most workplace first aid regulations and training providers require, and it is not a WSIB-approved or government-recognized first aid certificate. Check what your province and your employer require. Use this course to learn and refresh your knowledge alongside in-person training.
