Course overview
Knowing what to do in the first few minutes of an emergency can save a life. This online course teaches the knowledge side of emergency first aid and CPR in plain language, so you can recognize a problem quickly, get help on the way and give care until responders arrive.
You begin with the role of a first aider: staying safe, getting consent, calling 9-1-1 and passing on clear information. You then learn the check, call, care approach and how to use personal protective equipment. The CPR module covers adults, children and infants and walks you through using an AED step by step.
Further modules cover the emergencies that matter most at work: choking, severe bleeding, shock, anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, asthma and opioid overdose, followed by injuries and sudden illness such as burns, head, neck and spine injuries, seizures and heat or cold emergencies. The last module covers first aid kits, emergency action plans and how to record an incident.
Please note: this is an online knowledge course. It does not include the hands-on practice with an instructor that most workplace first aid regulations and training providers require, and it is not a WSIB-approved or government-recognized first aid certificate. Check what your province and your employer require. Use this course to learn and refresh your knowledge alongside in-person training.
